30.0.1 does not start after upgrade of Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS to kernel GNU/Linux 5.15.0-124-generic x86_64

Hello Dears,

my 30.0.1 ran smoothly on Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.15.0-122-generic x86_64) until this evening.

Then I installed Collabora CODE. Still all good. And added additional fonts. Still no problems. Then I copied fonts directly into /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ Still no problem. But the fonts did not show in Nextcloud Office nor in the Settings.

Then somebody advised me to install fonts-manager. Which came with 169 new packages and also an incremental kernel upgrade from GNU/Linux 5.15.0-122-generic x86_64 to GNU/Linux 5.15.0-124-generic x86_64. Since then, Nextcloud does not load anymore.

I try to reboot into …122 instead of …124, but despite Grub default set correctly to …122, and after reinstall linux-image-5.15.0-122-generic, Ubuntu only boots with …124 and Nextcloud does not launch.

What can I do ?

  • release upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS as Ubuntu suggests when I reboot ?
  • uninstall fonts-manager ?
  • roll back to an older kernel than …122 ?
  • something else ?

With many thanks,
Joachim

What do you mean by it does not launch? Nextcloud is a web app, so launching is more related to your web server/etc.

What’s in the nextcloud.log? What’s in your web server log?

I mean, when I tried to access my Nextcloud from the web app, the browser window remained empty.
Then I went to sleep.
Then it showed an internal error message when I tried the same (instead of the previous blank)
Then, being connected through SSH, I found that MariaDB did not launch, was still caught in processes. I killed all MariaDB processes.
Then, I retried again and Hurray ! it is working.
The fonts I installed do not show among the available fonts in the Admin settings : Office. But they are available for Nextcloud Office.

So, after all, Nextcloud, Collabora, Nextcloud Office, additional fonts work. That was the objective. And, coincidentally, it works with …124 Kernel in Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS (GNU/Linux 5.15.0-124-generic x86_64)

Problem solved, except for

  • Fonts list in the Admin settings
  • Still wonder if it makes sense to do the release upgrade to 24.04.01 LTS any time soon
