20.0. 6 Restore Nextcloud after failed Update

So my Problem is that if I update my Nextcloud, that it wont work anymore after reboot.
My question is: How can I restore my Nextcloud to the backup which the Nextcloud automatically makes before updating? Does anyone know where the updater stores those backups?
In my standard backup directory is only my old backup.
Of course I have made manuell backups, but they are a few days old, the Backup made by the updater should be the newest.

Nextcloud version : 20.0.6 (Before update 20.0.4)
Operating system and version: Linux. I used the raspberrypi image from ownyourbits.com
Apache or nginx version: Apache 2 I think. Don’t know what that is tbh.
PHP version: I don’t know, but updated yesterday
I don’t know how to access these logs, I hope they are not relevant for restoring a backup.

Hi @Taddl,
Can you give more details about your nextcloud error ( web page error, log, …)?
to see the log of nextcloud : ( in a terminal )
In your VM , search nextcloud.log inside user data directory of your nextcloud

Maybe we can repair your nextcloud without a restoration.

All,

Problems with the latest 20.0.6 are being reported all over the place. Just cruise this forum.

Same as 20.0.5.

When I updated to 20.0.5 from 20.0.4 I kept getting “Internal server error”.

I simply re-installed 20.0.4 and it now works no problem.

I always check here now, before updating to see if anyone is having any problems.

And 20.0.6 was released, I figure, as a fix for the 20.0.5 update.

That’s 2 in a row…

Do they even test these updates before releasing?

After I made the update everything seemed normal, i got no error.
And all the other updates i made in the WebUI (OCC) were successfull and caused no problems. I have checked it out, the problem must be caused by the update.
I have several times completely reinstalled my raspberry, alway using a image from ownyourbits.com.
The problem doesn’t occures when I make updates in the WebUI, only when doing it in the Nextcloud interface! (I mean this

In my ncp.log are no entries created after or while the update. The ncp-errog.log, other_vhosts_access.log and ncp-access.log also haven’t generated any entries since the update. They seem inactive/down.
When I try to open the nextcloud via my domains nothing happens. No erro code or something

After I made the update everything seemed normal, i got no error.

I am really greatful for any help! this thing begins to annoy me (4th reinstallation).

This is the new config.php, i have marked the changes. The IP adress has changed because i have activated “stactic ip”, to see what happens, didn’t have a specific reason. I have marked everything that has changed.

How I did it was to do the step by step install process, manually through my Unraid command prompt not sure if the prompt in NC would let you do this (if your not on Unraid), only I substituted the “latest” in the

wget https://download.nextcloud.com/server/releases/latest.tar.bz2

with

wget https://download.nextcloud.com/server/releases/nextcloud-20.0.4.tar.bz2

from the Index of /server/releases NC repository.

It is quite far down the page. The releases are listed oldest to newest. I would just do a web page search for the version.

Then just follow the steps as normal and the version has been reverted.

As a caveat, this could result in some error messages around indices etc. on the update page. But easily fixed it is working again.

Ok, your problem seems to be solved.
But: Your question isn’ t answered:

I have the same question for going back, if update fails. I have my own backup/restore scripts which work very good, but they backup the whole data folder (120 GB…). It’s about 1h for backup and 1h for restore…

I am on V 23.0.5.

I have found the folder where the copies of the nextcloud folder are copied:
“nextcloud-data-folder/updater-ocvgax/backups”

But where is the database backup?

How can I use the automatically backups made by updates for a quick complete restore of the nextcloud files and database?
